Chronic Fatigue

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) a complex, long-term disorder characterized by extreme fatigue that can’t be explained by any specific medical condition but can be set off even by normal to low activity.

While the exact cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is unknown, the symptoms are debilitating and can make daily life feel like an uphill battle.

Symptoms include fatigue, loss of memory or concentration, sore throat, enlarged lymph nodes in your neck or armpits, unexplained muscle or joint pain, headaches, and unrestful sleep. Signs of chronic fatigue often include extreme tiredness that can occur following light movement or exercise.

As for what causes this condition, there are often multiple variables that contribute. Root causes that we commonly see in the clinic include gut dysfunction, chronic infections, and toxic burden. Many people with Lyme Disease or mold illness also experience chronic fatigue. Some nutrient deficiencies due to poor diet or sometimes proper diet but poor absorption can also cause chronic fatigue. Thyroid and hormone imbalance can contribute as well. We generally find that there are multiple causes that are together causing chronic fatigue to be a significant issue.

According to an Institute of Medicine (IOM), an estimated 836,000 to 2.5 million Americans suffer from ME/CFS, but most of them have not been diagnosed and the numbers are growing affecting men, women and children of all races and ethnicities.

At Medicine With Heart, our team has access to the most recent data about the potential root causes of chronic fatigue. They will have a detailed conversation with you about your medical history and the severity of your symptoms before developing a natural and effective treatment method to ease your fatigue and help you to regain your energy.

Our Approach to Working with Fatigue

As you can see above, there are many different reasons behind fatigue. We start by doing advanced lab tests (ones you have not already done and are different than what are done in conventional medicine). The tests let us know how many root causes you have and which ones they are. We analyze labs from an optimal perceptive. This means that if we run a thyroid test and it comes back “normal” by conventional standards, we may not see it as normal. This is because our lens is focused on optimal health. We often see thyroid levels that are normal by conventional standards but low by optimal standards.

Once we have all the information, we then put together treatment protocols for your unique picture. This may include food, lifestyle, herbs, and researched based supplements. Occasionally we will use pharmaceutical medicine, but this is not our predominant approach.
