Facts about Fibromyalgia

Research has shown that the symptoms of fibromyalgia are due to something inflaming the central nervous system. When the central nervous system is inflamed, the signal around pain sensing can be altered.
Fibromyalgia is reversible when we properly identify the reason and the root causes of the fibro, which can be done by advanced lab tests.

For those with fibromyalgia, the body begins to interpret smaller amounts of sensation as pain than in a healthy body. Other symptoms that often occur with fibromyalgia such as fatigue, mood changes, insomnia, headaches and swelling can give us insights and clues to the underlying reasons for fibromyalgia.
We Understand How Exhausting this Disease Is

I used to have fibromyalgia. I would wake up and would immediately find myself doing a body scan to see how much pain I was in that day. The question was not IF I was in pain. The question was simply HOW bad was the pain that day. There was constantly a dull ache that filled my muscular system. Sometimes the pain would become more severe. Sometimes it would be sharp. Often the pain was deep, so very deep. It would take over my entire body and my mind. Activity could make it much worse. I had a constant headache and TMJ. Some days even walking up the stairs seemed like an amazing feat. I would have “good days” but never pain free days.
I would talk about my pain only with a few people. But mostly I kept it to myself. When I would talk about it, I would often get a response such as, “I am sore from the gym or yes, my back gets sore sometimes too.” Chronic pain is an impossible thing to understand unless one has gone through it. Therefore, most of the time I suffered in silence and this created an exhausting and all consuming mental-emotional battle.
Today, I am fibro free without medication. These days I run, lift weights, snowboard, participate in Orange Theory, dance, sing and spend time with family and friends. My journey has filled me with compassion for those who are suffering from fibromyalgia. Some days I reflect back on what my life used to be like and I am filled with such gratitude for the new pain free life I have.
Many members of the team at Medicine with Heart have also suffered from fibromyalgia as well. If you are on this page looking for a medical practice filled with those who understand the physical, emotional and mental intensity of fibromyalgia and have solutions, then you are at the right place.
